Welcome to 3MultiMedia.com!

Totally Affordable Web site Designs that are made for YOU to Edit!

designs2 Welcome to 3MultiMedia.com!

We’re a small USA Based Company website design company that resides under AR WebSolutions, Inc. We’re part of the 3MultiMedia Network. Our home office is located in beautiful Huntington Beach, CA. I design awesome websites for users that showcase CMS powered websites. We have found that WordPress just isn’t blogging software, but rather can deliver a complete content management system for our clients. We love WordPress!

We have found that if we design the site in WordPress, our client has access to hb logo1 png 150x150 Welcome to 3MultiMedia.com!everything — they can easily edit and add pages and posts whenever they like using the administrative database back end. How much they can do depends ultimately on how interested they become — I have some clients that only write posts, but others who understand how to install plugins and addons to enhance site functionality. Regular HTML coded sites can only be changed if the client knows how to program HTML and has access to both an HTML editor as in ExpressionWeb, Frontpage, CoffeeCup, or Dreamweaver and then they would have use an FTP to transfer the files over to the server. Our designs, in conjuction with WordPress, take all the thinking out of the updating. Clients can do all their own updating thenmselves! They can add/change text to their homepage, multimedia like images/pictures/videos, or simply doing a blog post.

We really specialize in implementing WordPress for clients who are looking to get a website.bus card Welcome to 3MultiMedia.com!

Currently working on Two Sites at once

I am currently working on two new CMS based designs:

  1. www.EliteEquipmentInc.com
    • EliteEquipmentInc.com is an old friend’s website. He repairs light construction equipment in the Southern California area. He is based in Orange County and does a great job of doign repairs.
  2. www.AirVista.com
    • AirVista.com is a client that I have serviced since 2002. I originally designed his website using the “handcoding” method. If you all remember, this is how we website designers used to do it. I presented to him a upscale conversion of his website to bring his site up to today’s standards of websites. I explained to him that by using converting his website to use a “content management system” that he would have much more control of his own website, giving him the ability to make changes on the fly instead of having to hire me to do it each time he wanted something changed.

www.BVanCo.com. Bryan is a local Handyman that does jobs around the Orange County/Huntington Beach/Newport Beach area. We should be complete this week 9/14/2009 – 9/18/2009. He wanted to his “Handyman” business online. We will be helping him with this project.

Completed www.BVanCo.com

I currently completed working on www.BVanCo.com. Bryan is very happy with his end result and was a very nice guy when I met him.

He has his regular site (bvanco.com) and another domain of www.TheVanco.com forwarding to bvanco.com

A Newsletter Redesign

I’ve been working on and completed a newsletter redesign for MakeupTalk.com.  Here is the latest version.

Let’s talk about Content Management Systems!

Let’s talk about Content Management Systems!

While we will discuss “website content management systems” (WCMS), there are a few types of content management systems:

  • Enterprise CMS (ECMS)
  • Web CMS (WCMS, we will discuss this one today)
  • Document management system (DMS)
  • Mobile CMS
  • Component CMS
  • Media content management system

A (W)ebsite (C)ontent (M)anagement system (WCMS) is content management system (CMS) software, usually implemented as a Web application, for creating, managing, and producing dynamic HTML content for websites.

QUICK OVERVIEW: CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, versioning, and publishing industry-specific documentation such as news articles, operators’ manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, and marketing brochures. The content managed may include computer files, image media, audio files, video files, electronic documents, and Web content. These concepts represent integrated and interdependent layers. There are various nomenclatures known in this area: Web Content Management, Digital Asset Management, Digital Records Management, Electronic Content Management and so on. The bottom line for these systems is managing content and publishing, with a workflow if required.

DESIGNING: When designing a website, deciding whether or not to utilize a content management system, a WebCMS or WCMS, is vital during it’s building stage. These days, we only build them using WCMSs. Years ago, people used to just use “static” websites instead of “dynamic”. Static has it’s advantages and disadvantages, just like CMS built sites have their advantages along with their disadvantages.

Advantages of static websites

  • Quick to develop
  • Cheap to develop (used to be more)
  • Cheap to host

Disadvantages of static websites

  • Requires web development expertise to update site
  • Site not as useful for the user
  • Content can get stagnant

Advantages of dynamic websites

  • Much more functional website
  • Much easier to update
  • New content brings people back to the site and helps in the search engines
  • Client is in control of content
  • Much lower long-term website maintenance costs
  • Eliminates the need to wait on a busy, expensive web designer
  • Facilitates real-time web design content management
  • Keeps information current and up-to-date
  • Dramatically shortens web development time
  • Improves Search Engine Optimization

This comparison is similar to comparing how the operating system of Windows was build to run on top of DOS as a simple graphical user interface (GUI) for less technically challenged people to use a computer. Website Content Management systems (WebCMS) was created for users to make simple updates to their websites without requiring knowledge of programming code or markup languages. Unlike Web-site builders like Microsoft FrontPage, Expression Web or Adobe Dreamweaver, Web CMS allows non-technical users to make changes to an existing website with little or no training. Furthermore, most WCMS runs via a web browser behind a secure admininstration panel log in. Web CMS can be thought of as the Administration Portal or Control Panel for managing your website content(in other words, what is on your website).

Most systems use a database to store content, metadata, and/or artifacts that might be needed by the system. Content is frequently, but not universally, stored as XML, to facilitate reuse and enable flexible presentation options

Types of content management systems

While there are many types of content management systems available. We like to use WordPress for our main CMS system. We find that many of the content management systems are just too complicated for our users to utilze.

Some of the more popular open source content management systems include

  • WordPress (blog cms, our preferred WEB CMS for our clients)
  • Drupal (full website cms)
  • Joomla (full website cms)
  • Zencart (shopping cart cms)

Playing DVDs on Windows..no workie!!

With a regular install of Windows XP or Vista you may and you are trying to get a DVD to play, you may find that the system will give you errors or just play the audio. What the deal is that the codecs to play your DVD are not present. You may receive an error message that it cannot locate the proper codec and the DVD won’t play. This can be frustrating because you may not have a commercial DVD player application on hand. Sometimes commercial DVD’s will have a player for you to install on your computer, but some do not.

HARK!! Who GOES THERE????
There is a solution, though…

Download and install VLC media player from here. I use this for all video formats. I will play all formats.

This is a completely free and open source media player that supports DVD decoding. It allows you to play DVDs without having to purchase a commercial codec.

Remember that you can also check your DVD collection for a commercial player. Sometimes there is a complete application included with the disc that has the codecs available. Other times you may also want to check with your video card manufacturer (ATI or Nvidia usually) to see if they supply one with the card’s software.

Otherwise you’re stuck with buying one of these commercial codecs: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx

Windows 7

Microsoft has announced that Windows 7 will be commercially available on October 22nd, 2009. In other words, that’s the date when you’ll likely be able to walk into a store and either buy a computer with the operating system preloaded or buy a boxed version of the software to install on your existing computer.

The company has been indicating that it hopes to have Windows 7 out in time for the holiday shopping season, and an October launch certainly fits the bill. But if you’re in the market for a back-to-school computer this fall, it looks like you’re going to have to stick with Windows Vista, XP, OS X, or Linux.

On Back in July 2009, I pre-ordered 5 copies of the new Windows 7 from Amazon.com. The reason I decided to order from Amazon was that I am an Amazon “Prime” member and I get free two day shipping and no California sales tax. Here is a screenshot of Windows 7

Beta Releases:

Now, I was one of the luck ones to obtain the RTM (Release to Manufacture) versions of Windows 7, both 32 and 64 bit.  I installed it on an older laptop. It was amazingly fast!  I then installed it on my wife’s iMac using Sun’s virtual Box.  It installs so much faster than Snow Leopard on her iMac.  I also installed onto my home computer using the same Virtual Box.

I love Windows 7 and will be using it when it comes out in October.
