eCommerce Websites

Sell online with a store that's built for you

Ready to start selling online? Good call. About one out of every six dollars spent at US retailers now gets spent online, and that number keeps climbing.

I build custom online stores that look like your brand, are simple for customers to shop, and are easy for you to run day to day.

What Is eCommerce?

It's more than a Buy button

eCommerce simply means buying and selling online. But a store that actually makes money is a lot more than a checkout page. It's the product pages, the photos, the cart, the payment system, shipping, taxes, emails to customers, and getting found on Google in the first place.

Think of it like opening a shop on Main Street. You need a good sign, nice displays, a working register, and people walking through the door. I build all of those pieces for you, then hand you the keys.

What Can I Sell?

If people pay for it, we can sell it online

Online stores aren't just for big retailers. Here's what you can sell, whether you're a local business or a high school booster club.

Physical products

Anything you ship or hand over in person, with sizes, colors, and stock tracking built in.

Spirit wear and team gear

Shirts, hoodies, and hats for schools and sports teams. Parents order online, no paper forms.

Donations and fundraisers

Let supporters give online with preset amounts or any amount they choose. Perfect for foundations and boosters.

Camps and registrations

Sign ups for camps, clinics, classes, and tournaments, with payment collected right at registration.

Event tickets

Sell tickets to dinners, galas, golf tournaments, and banquets, with a set number of seats available.

Digital downloads

eBooks, guides, music, printables, and courses. Customers get their file the moment they pay.

Services and bookings

Let clients pay for lessons, consultations, or appointments online before they ever walk in.

Gift cards and memberships

Sell gift cards, monthly memberships, or season passes that bring customers back again and again.

The Building Blocks

What goes into a store that actually sells

A pretty store that nobody can find, or that's a pain to check out on, won't make you a dime. These are the pieces I put in place on every store I build.

1

Product pages that sell

Clear photos, short descriptions, sizes and options, and prices that are easy to spot. Everything a shopper needs to say yes.

2

A smooth shopping cart

Add to cart, change quantities, apply a coupon, and check out in just a few taps. Fewer steps means fewer abandoned carts.

3

Secure payments

Accept credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal through trusted processors like Stripe. Card details never touch your site.

4

Shipping and sales tax

Flat rate, free over a set amount, local pickup, or live carrier rates. Sales tax gets figured automatically based on where you ship.

5

Fast, secure hosting

A slow store loses sales. Your store runs on fast hosting with an SSL certificate, and I can manage it for you through SurfCityHosting.com.

6

Built for phones first

Most shoppers browse on their phones. Every page, from product to checkout, is designed to work great on a small screen.

7

Found on Google

Every product gets a proper title and description so it can show up in search results. Customers can't buy what they can't find.

8

Emails and reports

Customers get order confirmations automatically. You get notified of every sale and can see what's selling at a glance.

Custom vs Cookie Cutter

Why not just use a DIY store builder?

DIY builders can work for a quick start. But your store ends up looking like thousands of others, and you're renting it, not owning it. Here's how a custom WordPress store compares.

Custom store by me

Design made for your brand
✓One of a kind
–Shared templates
You own your site
✓Yours to keep
–Rented monthly
Monthly platform fees
✓None for WordPress
–Go up as you grow

You'll still pay normal card processing fees and hosting, like any store. The difference is you're not paying rent on the store itself.

How It Works

From idea to first sale

Building a store follows my regular web design process, with a few extra steps to get your products, payments, and shipping just right.

1

Plan your store

We talk about what you're selling, how many products, and how you want to get paid and ship.

2

Design the look

I design your shop, product pages, and cart to match your brand. You approve before I build.

3

Add your products

Photos, prices, sizes, and descriptions go in. I can load them for you or show you how.

4

Set up and test

Payments, shipping, taxes, and emails get connected. Then I run test orders start to finish.

5

Launch and learn

Your store goes live and I show you how to add products, fill orders, and run sales.

Questions

Online store questions

Have a question that isn't here? Send me a note and I'll get right back to you.

What do you build online stores with?

Most stores I build use WooCommerce, the free store add on for WordPress. It's used by millions of shops, and it means your store, blog, and regular pages all live on one site you can manage yourself. Read more about why I build on WordPress.

How will customers pay?

Credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal are the usual setup. Payments run through a trusted processor like Stripe or PayPal, and the money gets deposited right into your bank account.

Is my store going to be secure?

Yes. Every store gets an SSL certificate, the little padlock in the browser. Card numbers are handled by the payment processor, so they're never stored on your website. Keeping WordPress and plugins updated is the other big piece, and I can handle that for you.

Can I add products and fill orders myself?

Definitely. Adding a product is about as easy as filling out a form. When an order comes in, you'll get an email and can mark it shipped from your dashboard or your phone. I'll walk you through all of it.

How many products can I have?

As many as you need. Some clients sell five items, others sell hundreds. We'll plan the layout and categories around the size of your store so customers can find things fast.

What about shipping and sales tax?

We'll set up the shipping options that make sense for you, like flat rate, free shipping over a certain amount, local pickup, or live rates from carriers. Sales tax can be calculated automatically at checkout. Check with your accountant on exactly what you need to collect.

Can you add a store to my existing website?

Often, yes. If your site is already on WordPress, I can usually add a store right into it. If it's on something older, we can talk about moving it to WordPress at the same time.
